Iodine Supplemention

Iodine is the most effective broad-spectrum antiseptic with low toxicity. It has very high germicidal activity and No organism develops resistance to iodine! It’s been known as a universal antiseptic for over 150 years and has few side effects except at very high dose. Most of us are aware that Iodine is used by the thyroid gland to make thyroid hormone and has been used widely in the past to treat goiters, cretinism and mental retardation in infants caused by inadequate iodine in our diet. However Iodine is also found in all our mucus secretions from our lungs, nose and saliva which helps defend against viral and bacterial invasion!

Iodine has been restricted out of our diets since the 1960’s due to a theory proposed as the “Wolff Chaikoff” effect. This flawed research proposed the “dangers of iodine” and for a period of time was accepted by the medical community. People think that by eating “ionized salt” that they are getting the iodine they physiologically need for health. This is a great mistake! In 2002 after great amounts of research Dr. Guy Abraham and others disproved the “Wolff Chaikoff” effect and started the Iodine Project which has opened the eyes of many doctors and researchers toward the benefits of supplemental Iodine.

Iodine has been taken out of our foods and our society has an epidemic of Iodine deficiency primarily due to environmental toxins like Bromine found in foods as well as pesticides and other environmental toxins. Bromine and its associated chemicals like Florine and Chlorine compete with receptor sites in our tissues and don’t allow Iodine to be effectively stored and or used in our bodies. Many pathological conditions including breast cysts, breast cancers, brain and neurological conditions, prostate cancer, some skin cancers and a variety of other maladies have been cured with the proper used of Iodine when deficient.

The recommended dose for daily Iodine is 50mg. however most of us need to start at 12.5mg daily and work up to the 50mg due to detox reactions as we shed the Bromine and other environmental toxins which have been absorbed on the Iodine receptor sites. If you’re interested in how to build up to the 50mg daily we can supply you with the appropriate sources and protocol for this. In the meantime just starting with the 12.5 mg of Iodine (Iodoral from Optimox) would be a good start. You can contact our office for more information.

There are great resources to look into the possible need for Iodine supplementation. The following are a good start to this journey:
